OPC Core Components 3.0

OPC Core Components is a redistributable runtime package from the OPC Foundation that provides the standard COM/DCOM interfaces, proxies, stubs, and discovery service required for OPC Classic applications on Windows. By installing a consistent set of tested binaries, it enables reliable interoperability between OPC Data Access (DA), Alarms & Events (A&E), and Historical Data Access (HDA) clients and servers from different vendors.

The package typically includes:

• OPCEnum, the Windows service used to enumerate installed OPC Classic servers.
• Common OPC type libraries and proxy/stub DLLs for DA, A&E, HDA, and shared OPC interfaces.
• Both 32-bit and 64-bit components for use on modern Windows systems.

OPC Core Components is not an OPC server or client by itself; it is the foundational runtime many vendors depend on. Install it on systems that host or connect to OPC Classic software to ensure proper browsing, discovery, and communication—especially if you encounter issues related to missing proxies/stubs or server enumeration. Note that DCOM and firewall settings may still require configuration depending on your environment.

For OPC UA use cases, the OPC UA Local Discovery Server (LDS) and related SDKs are provided separately by the OPC Foundation.
